Porsche 918 drives Manhattan, doesn’t catch fire

Let the state right off the bat that this clip from Drive, with Mike Spinelli as the host, it will not be the most exciting videos featuring the Porsche 918 Spyder will ever see. But at least the hybrid hyper unburned and look directly in the video.

Spinelli puts Porsche’s claim that the 918 can do 12 miles (around 20km) in all-electric mode to the test, by driving from the top of Manhattan to the bottom.

Lamborghini Huracan LP620-2 Super Trofeo revealed

As expected Lamborghini literally took the cover off its new Huracan LP620-2 Super Trofeo in California on the weekend.

As its name suggests the race version of the Huracan produces 620hp and all of it is sent to the rear wheels. It tips the scales at 1270kg (2800lbs) and we think it would be a lot more fun than this understated reveal would indicate.

Turns out that video preview gave us a far better look at the car and all we have from the official source is three pretty crappy pics.

Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo makes Global Debut at ‘The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering’

Carmel, California 15th August 2014 – Automobili Lamborghini unveiled its next generation motorsports machine: the new Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo. The car will debut in all three (Europe, Asia and North America) of the brand’s one-make 2015 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series.

The Huracán Super Trofeo marks a new benchmark for the race series. ‘‘The Huracán Super Trofeo is an all-new car built from scratch with a clear racing concept,’’ said Maurizio Reggiani, Board Member and Director of Research and Development for Automobili Lamborghini. ‘‘We believe the car will be as fun for fans to watch as it will be rewarding for our racers to drive.’’

The redesigned Huracán Super Trofeo was developed in collaboration with Dallara Engineering, with direct involvement by founder Giampaolo Dallara. Dallara’s history with Lamborghini dates back to 1963 when he worked as a Lamborghini engineer and later led the development of the legendary Miura.

The Huracán Super Trofeo adopts the direct-injected V10 engine from the road car, delivering 620 horsepower in race trim, and a rear-drive set-up meant to accelerate the series racers’ transition into GT racing. The vehicle weighs an ultra-light 2,800 lbs, attributed to the hybrid carbon fiber/aluminum chassis and strict motorsports weight reduction. The weight/power ratio is 4.5 lbs/hp.

The aerodynamics provide better efficiency, traction and downforce using a ten-position rear wing, front and rear diffusers as well as adjustable front air intakes. The Huracán Super Trofeo will be exclusively-equipped with Pirelli tires engineered specifically for this application.

Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo – North America – Upcoming Dates:
August 22-24 (Virginia International Park, Alton, VA);
October 1-4 (Road Atlanta, Atlanta, GA); and
November 20-21 (Sepang, Malaysia, World Finals)

Also at The Quail, Lamborghini presented its Aventador LP 700-4 in a new version by Ad Personam. The vehicle, which will be shown as well at Concorso Italiano and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, highlighting Lamborghini 's' "made-to-order" program.

Clients of Ad Personam-equipped cars avail themselves of personalized materials, custom colors and exclusive trim for exterior and interior fitment. The display model highlighted semi-aniline leather, Alcantara, Forged Composite, a Lamborghini patented carbon-fiber material, to custom stitching and beyond. The program caters to those who love to engage with their dream car — even before they take delivery.

BMW M4: Initiation ceremony

Until this year we didn’t know the BMW M4. To help us get to know its new icon a little better BMW has released this introductory video.
It’s a pretty cool clip and BMW is to be applauded for embracing its history and its loyal owners. Those of you playing at home may also remember the preview of this video we brought you a few weeks ago.
That M Performance exhaust sure does sound good!

Wörthersee 2014: Volkswagen GTI Roadster

The fearsome GTI Roadster has just been wheeled out at the Wörthersee show and, oh boy, what a beast it is! Just look at the key stats. It’s powered by a 3.0 litre V6 biturbo pumping out a staggering 370kW (503PS). Peak torque is 560Nm and is on tap between 4000–6000rpm. Mind, 500Nm of that torque is all yours from just 2000rpm.

That power is sent through a 7-speed DSG and 4motion all-wheel drive system and Volkswagen says its 1420kg concept can reach 100km/h in 3.6 seconds. Keep your foot planted and you’ll top out at 309km/h.

In a case of life imitating art the GTI Roadster began as nothing more than a virtual creation for the Sony Playstation game Gran Turismo 6. After being asked by Sony to create a car for Gran Turismo’s fifteenth anniversary Volkswagen launched an internal design competition.

Judged by Klaus Bischoff, Volkswagen Head of Design, and Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of Gran Tursimo, the winners were Malte Hammerbeck and Domen Rucigaj (exterior) and Guillermo Mignot (interior). They became informally known as the Vision GTI-GT6 taskforce.

The taskforce was joined by other designers and their visual creation was developed entirely by computer, including the 3D modelling. The press material below doesn’t offer any detail on the production of the model you see in the photos, though. But there are some very cool cutaway images for you after the break.

Freed from the reality of real-world production constraints the GTI Roadster is described by Volkswagen as the “most spectacular GTI ever” and it’s pretty hard to disagree with that claim.

World premiere of the “GTI Roadster”: Virtual super GTI from PlayStation 3 game becomes reality

Volkswagen developed GTI Roadster with 503 PS for “Gran Turismo 6″
Volkswagen transfers GTI Roadster from the virtual world to reality

At the legendary GTI meet at Wörthersee (28 to 31 May), Volkswagen is erasing the boundaries between the virtual and real worlds. That is because, in a world premiere, the inventor of the Golf GTI is presenting a show car which was originally created as a purely computer generated car in bits and bytes for the PlayStation®3 classic “Gran Turismo 6″ (“GT6″ developed by Polyphony Digital Inc.): the “GTI Roadster, Vision Gran Turismo”. The two-seat convertible is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine that produces a power of 370 kW / 503 PS. The V6 TSI develops a maximum torque of 560 Nm between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm; 500 Nm of that torque is already available at 2,000 rpm in the direct-injection petrol engine. The enormous power of the TSI is transferred to the 20-inch wheel-tyre combination via a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG) and all-wheel drive system (4MOTION). The lightweight 1420 kg super sports
car reaches 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. V/max: 309 km/h!

Volkswagen and Sony Computer Entertainment. The “GTI Roadster, Vision Gran Turismo” is the result of cooperation between Volkswagen and Sony Computer Entertainment. Klaus Bischoff, Head of Design at Volkswagen: “When Sony Computer Entertainment asked us if we would develop a Vision GT vehicle exclusively for the game to mark the 15th anniversary of Gran Turismo we didn’t hesitate for a moment.” An in-house competition was immediately launched and young Volkswagen designers submitted their designs. The submissions were judged by Klaus Bischoff, Head of Design for the Volkswagen Brand, and no less than Kazunori Yamauchi, Director of Polyphony Digital and Senior Vice-President of Sony Computer Entertainment who is the inventor of the “Gran Turismo series”.

Kazunori Yamauchi is a GTI fan. The Japanese executive has his own stable of super sports cars that includes the icon of all sporty compacts: the Golf GTI. Bischoff and Yamauchi finally chose two designs, which were then developed further. Designers Malte Hammerbeck and Domen Rucigaj were in charge of developing the exterior, whilst Guillermo Mignot was responsible for the interior. The entire development process was realised on the computer; even the 3D model of the vehicle was purely virtual.

GTI from PS3 game becomes reality. Together, the three colleagues formed a sort of “Vision GTI-GT6 task force” together with other designers. Just a few weeks later, their “GTI Roadster, Vision Gran Turismo” was ready. Sony Computer Entertainment and Volkswagen unveiled the version for the virtual world of Gran Turismo 6 on 26 May. Just three days later a sensation: on 29 May Volkswagen will make the “GTI Roadster” that was designed for the PS3 a reality and present it as a superlative sports car at the GTI Meet in Reifnitz, Austria – in tribute to fans of the Golf GTI. And fans of the “GT6″ world. From mid June “GT6″ players will be able to download the “GTI Roadster, Vision Gran Turismo” for PS3.

Most spectacular GTI ever. Since Volkswagen designers gave their fantasy free reign in designing the “GTI Roadster” for “GT6″ – and were able to overlook production model constraints entirely (e.g. producibility and selling price) – the resulting car is certainly the most spectacular Golf GTI ever! Klaus Bischoff: “The Vision GT project offered a wonderful opportunity to sketch out extreme ideas and design elements of the GTI that are portrayed as vibrantly, dynamically and emotionally as possible. Further development of an unmistakable design and a love for detail reflect the high standard shared by the ‘Volkswagen GTI’ and the ‘Gran Turismo’ by Sony and PlayStation® product brands. We were all really pleased to have created a vehicle that game players can use to get an incomparable virtual impression of the world of the GTI.”

GTI W12-650, Design Vision GTI, GTI Roadster. In designing the “GTI Roadster, Vision Gran Turismo”, Volkswagen revolutionized the visual concept of the “Design Vision GTI” concept car that was presented at Wörthersee in 2013. It was further developed, reinvented and sent into the future as a roadster. The specifics: the roadster was completely redeveloped, however the “Design Vision GTI” of 2013 still paved the way, because Volkswagen used it to show how a GTI for motorsport might appear – for the first time since the “Golf GTI W12-650″ was presented in Wörthersee in 2007. Important to know: design highlights of the 2013 concept car are the C pillars and side sills that flare out from the body on a second level. Designers exteriorised them as independent body elements to create space for the car’s much larger track widths and specially developed 20-inch wheels. Despite its extreme modifications, the “Design Vision GTI”, with a top speed of 300 km/h, had a very homogeneous appearance – as though it might start in a car race tomorrow. The reason is that designers based their work precisely on the fundamentals of Volkswagen Design-DNA – despite all conceivable freedoms of design. The same applies to the new “GTI Roadster, Vision Gran Turismo”. A superlative two-seat convertible GTI which – and this is crucial – takes up the idea of the C pillars and side sills (carbon on the Roadster) and expresses it on another level.

Extreme proportions. Both concept cars show the potential of Volkswagen DNA, and that they will carry the GTI far into the future. The goal in the “GTI Roadster” was to push the “Design Vision GTI” concept to even greater extremes. The wheelbase of the Roadster, at 2,494 mm, is significantly shorter than that of the production GTI and the “Design Vision GTI”. With its minimal overhangs and minimalistic height (1,090 mm) and width (1,894) that is extreme in relation to them, the 4,158 mm long Roadster also has proportions that will not only make the jaws of GTI fans drop.

C pillars and side sills as a new level. As mentioned, the biggest parallels between the two Wörthersee concept cars are found in the area of the C pillars and side sills. On the GTI Roadster, they are once again independent body elements, but this time they are integrated in a convertible sports car whose dual monocoque stylistically links to the world of Formula sports cars.

Exterior design – the GTI as roadster
Convertible GTI for the race track. Volkswagen designers developed a progressive super sports car for race courses that are virtually simulated. Despite this virtual nature, the “GTI Roadster” gives viewers a way to experience unique aspects of the GTI world. Moreover, all those who have seen the “GTI Roadster, Vision Gran Turismo” live at Wörthersee and might want to even take the wheel in the dual monocoque sometime, can meld the virtual and real worlds on their monitor with a PS3 controller in hand.

GTI of the future. The fact is that the design of the “GTI Roadster, Vision Gran Turismo” launches the original GTI and its seven evolutionary stages far into the future. The visual image of the visionary two-seater already promises a direct driving experience. Its extreme acceleration potential in interplay with its extremely swept-back windscreen makes the car very easy to experience directly, both in the game and in reality. The driver sits in the monocoque and races around the track of the GT6 world from the height and perspective of a Formula race car driver.

Aerodynamics is everything. The roadster body was aerodynamically optimised by numerous modifications. Visually prominent at the rear is the large spoiler or wing. It creates a strong downforce, which transfers the extreme engine power to the road in a controlled way via an all-wheel drive system (4MOTION). In the overall visual concept, it is fascinating how the rear spoiler is integrated into the design of the “GTI Roadster”. Background: on the “Design Vision GTI” presented in 2013, the outlying C pillars transitioned into the roof. Now – as a defining design element of the side profile – they form a roll-over protection bar. The rear spoiler, with its lengthened design, gives the appearance of a wing hovering behind the roadster.

Red, the colour of the GTI. The “GTI Roadster, Vision Gran Turismo” sports a radiant, intensive red metallic colour, a new interpretation of the “Tornado Red” monochrome colour – which is the classic GTI red. Designers gave the name “Gran Turismo Red” to the new colour. Malte Hammerbeck: “We were looking for a very provocative and aggressive red. The car should look fast – even when the car is standing still – and the paint should emphasise its surface contours. We had excellent success with this high-quality three-layer paint.” All add-on parts are designed in matt carbon as an accent that complements the high-gloss red of the body. Only the radiator grille and the screen over the engine compartment vent are finished in high-gloss black.

Side profile – doors swivel up and forward. Just as cool as the rear spoiler are the doors that swivel up and forward. Visually, they split an extremely prominent character line into an upper and lower half. The contours of the doors are also very distinctive, because they are framed by the side sills (trimmed with the “Gran Turismo” badge at the rear), the C pillar and the extremely flared wheel housings. A small but exclusive detail on the sides: the illuminated GTI badge that is integrated in the “tornado” line. On the upper door section, the side window forms a line that rises forward with the low-profile windscreen. In this area, the GTI Roadster has the appearance of a speedboat; the mirrors with their carbon shells that are mounted on the door shoulders have the look of small wings.

Customised 20-inch wheels. The 20-inch GTI alloy wheels also have a new design. Designers worked body coloured elements into the wheels which are equipped with central locks; these elements form a red circle when the wheels rotate. The front wheels (8.5J x 20, ET32) have 235/35 ZR20 tyres, while the rear wheels (9.5J x 20, ET25) are equipped with 275/30 ZR20 tyres. A close look between the wheel spokes reveals the extremely sturdy ceramic brake discs. On the front wheels, the brake callipers grip discs that are 380 mm in diameter; the rear discs are 356 mm in diameter.

Front end – hovering modules. Viewed directly from the front, the roadster looks like a typical GTI – but one originating from the next decade. Since the concept car is just slightly over one metre tall, the front end was shaped to be extremely low and wide. The GTI front end has a three-dimensional design with bumper modules that appear to hover. Viewed from underneath: A carbon motorsport spoiler shaped as “blades” fills the space between the GTI and the road, and it increases downforce at the front axle. Above them are the bumper, which transitions into the wings on the sides, and a centrally integrated wide radiator grille with a screen in GTI honeycomb design. Its structure intentionally makes use of the available space, creating a distinct three-dimensional effect. The radiator grille is framed by a surface finished in body colour. To the sides of this surface are the vertically arranged LED daytime driving lights and the painted exterior surfaces of the bumper. Above them are the classic red GTI radiator grille cross-stripe, VW badge and GTI logo, another air inlet with honeycomb screen and dual LED headlights. Beneath the headlights, there are two other narrow LED strips for the daytime running lights, which form an unmistakable light signature together with the vertical daytime running lights. Highly precise in styling: the outer lines of the lower bumper air inlet wrap over the contours of the bonnet and towards the rear. This much is certain: On the race courses of the GT6 world, this unmistakable charismatic front-end look will cause some uneasiness when competitors see it approaching in their digital rear-view mirrors. The closer the GTI approaches, the more noticeable is its wedge-shaped air hood on the bonnet; hot air from the engine compartment is vented through it.

Rear section has 3D look. Viewed from the rear, the observer sees how the carbon blades at the front continue uninterrupted across the side sills and into the rear section as a wrap-around element. At the rear, they serve as aerodynamically optimised air guides. Together with the narrow elements in body colour that run parallel to them they frame the lateral air vents and the carbon diffuser in the middle. This diffuser is characterised by strong vertical precious metal slats and two rear light elements mounted in positions similar to those in motorsport. Extending to the sides above them is the bumper with trapezoidal dual exhaust tailpipes (with GTI badge) positioned in the middle of the car. On the next higher level, there are the narrow 3D LED rear lights mounted inside a painted cross bar, and above them the rear spoiler. Here too, designers made use of the depths at different levels as an additional dimension to achieve a 3D look.

Interior design – the GTI with dual monocoque
Uncompromising sporty ergonomics. The driver and passenger are enclosed in a dual monocoque made of carbon. The two sides are partitioned by a middle bar that ascends from rear to front; it is open below. In this lower area, a fire extinguisher was made equally accessible to both driver and passenger, just as in a race car. The “GTI Roadster” is equipped with two race shell seats. The seating position is very low, nearly lying down, so it resembles the ergonomic proportions of a race car. The seats and the four-spoke grip steering wheel are covered with Alcantara. Another feature executed in motorsport style is the cockpit display on a V-shaped wing joined directly to the steering column trim – far forward of the driver. The steering wheel is mounted on a very long, exposed steering column, which is typical of a race car. Designers located the red, illuminated rotary light switch and shift paddles (7-speed DSG) to the left and right of the steering wheel’s central axis. From there, they can be activated intuitively and ergonomically with the thumbs – without the drivers having to take their hands off the steering wheel.

Black, anthracite and a little red. The materials and colours of the interior and exterior were intentionally differentiated in the two different cars: the typical GTI-red is used for some interior accents – in the form of the 5-point safety belts, contrasting stitching on the seats, the handles for opening the doors and controls on the steering wheel – and the rest is used on the exterior. In the “GTI Roadster”, however, the interior colour selections are reduced to “Black” and “Anthracite”; they are the typical interior colours for race cars. Nonetheless, the matt carbon in the cockpit (used for monocoque trim and the instruments) establishes a link to the exterior. Other dominant materials are Alcantara, Dinamica (like Alcantara, it too has microfibres) and aluminium. Inside the “GTI Roadster”, most decorative elements were omitted in favour of an uncompromising and driver-active motorsport look. So that the driver can focus exclusively on the race track – in both the virtual and real worlds!

Fastest Cars in the World hired Millionaire China

Koenigsegg Agera One: 1 asked as the fastest car in the world at the Geneva Motor Show which is taking place in Switzerland this week. Swedish-made car that can reach speeds of 439 kilometers per hour beat Hennessey Venom GT (436 km / h) and the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport (431 km / h).

Homemade Hypercar Koenigsegg was called One for the ratio of the weight and power of his one to one (1: 1). With a weight of 1340 kg, the car is super fast it can produce 1340 metric horsepower power.

However, although the first time exhibited at the Geneva Motor Show, the car was already sold out. Koenigsegg Agera only make six units One: 1.

Amazingly, though refused to reveal the price of the Agera One: 1, Koenigsegg claims all the super fast cars that are already sold out.

Koenigsegg spokesman, Andreas Petre, who met TopGear at the Geneva Motor Show revealed that four of the six Agera One: 1 bought by Chinese customers. Two other units purchased UK customers.

Andrew explained that instead of the subscriber in China who first proposed to create class cars Agera One: 1.

"Actually, our distributor in China who reported to us that there is a group of customers who need a racing car. They've got their other cars, but they want made cars Koenigsegg, "said he.

Andreas said Agera One: 1 can reach speeds of 100 km / h in just 2.8 seconds, reaching a speed of 300 km / h in just 12 seconds, and reaches a speed of 400 km / h in just 20 seconds. (Source: Top Gear)

Hennessey Venom GT, Sport Cars Fastest in the World

Hennessey Venom GT, the latest super car is claimed as the world's fastest commercial car. The super car speed record previously inscribed Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.

Hennessey Venom GT does have an amazing speed. Cars are made with funds between 600 thousand to 1 million US Dollars are able to penetrate the speed of 436 kilometers per hour.

The figure broke the previous record held by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. Four years ago, Bugatti was named the fastest sports car with a score of 434 kilometers per hour.

As reported by The Verge, quoting from Top Gear, Venom can reach a top speed of more than that, if driven on the track longer trajectory. In fact, the speed test itself is carried out in the shuttle runway Kennedy Space Center, Florida, which has a length of 5.6 kilometers.

Although managed to break the speed record for a car commercial, Venom can not be listed in the Guinness world record grain. Because the Guinness requires twice the speed test. In addition, the type of commercial cars tested at least be produced at least 30 pieces, while a new, there are 29 pieces Venom GT are produced. (The Verge).

Raising Horsepower: 7 Ways to Increase Engine Power Cars

A machine works well is important for the smooth functioning of the car.

The engine converts fuel into kinetic energy is then used to drive the car.

Engine power is calculated by various units. One popular measurement unit is horsepower (Hp).

The greater the greater the horsepower output of energy released by a car.

Increase Horsepower Car Engine

Most cars have had the power specifications of the standard engine. However, some owners may want to increase the engine power to meet their needs.

Here are some ways that can be taken to increase engine horsepower.

1. Replacing the Computer Chip

The owner can replace the ROM chip in the engine control unit (ECU) to increase the power.

However, in many cases, this will only be effective if accompanied by other modifications such as the air intake (air intake) and the exhaust system.

2. Modification of Exhaust System

Replacing the exhaust system can increase engine horsepower.

The exhaust system (exhaust) using sophisticated large pipes, headers, and the free flow muffler to reduce air resistance (back pressure) so that the disposal of so much smoother.

3. Installing Turbocharger

When adding a turbo or super charger do not forget to replace the cylinder with a larger size.

Turbochargers compress the air entering the cylinder. This will increase the amount of oxygen in the cylinder to improve combustion process.

In other words, more oxygen means greater power an engine.

4. Cool Air Intake

High temperatures will make the air expands, while cold air is more dense.

Instead of hot air, cold air should be included in the combustion chamber to increase the engine power.

This method can be achieved by installing the intercooler, which is a type of radiator with a turbocharger.

So, before it enters the cylinder, the air is compressed by the turbocharger is cooled by the intercooler.

5. Reduce Weight Car

Burden will slow the vehicle. In other words, lighten the weight of the car will increase power.

However, lowering the car's weight does not mean you have to remove the components or parts of the car.

This objective can be achieved by replacing some components with lighter materials.

Or, make sure the trunk and rear seat clear of unnecessary items.

6. Air Filter (Air Filter)

The air filter helps remove solid particles such as dust, pollen, etc. before entering the cylinder.

Size larger air filter allows more air into the engine.

More air to make the piston function efficiently thus increasing horsepower.

7. Busi and Fuel

Iridium spark plugs will make the car run faster because fuel combustion is more perfect trap.

Select also a high-octane fuel and unleaded to minimize residue left on the machine.

Machines are kept clean will contribute to power the car is maintained.

Oto Tips: Know Mobil Oil Leaks type of color

Cars can run into problems, but sometimes we often ignore the signs and symptoms.

One of the most visible sign is the presence of a leak or something dripping from under the car.

Leakage may be unknown. This results in problems or damage can not be immediately addressed.

Although the leak is known, yet still be able to walk to the car owners just let it without handled.

Leakage is the way the car to tell that something is wrong and the more quickly repaired, the problem can be localized and will not spread.

There are some oil or oil that is in the car. Ideally all this oil should not leak out. Engine oil, transmission oil, brake oil, power steering oil are some examples of them.

Car owners can determine what type of oil leak by looking at the color.

Red liquid is usually derived from the power steering system if the leak will affect your ability to control the steering wheel. Red liquid can also be derived from the transmission oil.

If this kind of leak that happens, you can bring the car to a mechanic to diagnose the type of leak before the car's condition is getting worse.

Light-colored liquid or yellow to brownish could be an indication that the car brake oil leak. Oil leaking brake can also be found on the wheels or parts around the tire.

If the brake oil leak, there may be a problem on the master cylinder. If this happens brakes will not function properly.

Amber-colored liquid (light brown) to mark the engine oil leaks. This fluid can be brown or black if the engine oil has been aged longer.

Leakage of this type is the most common type of leakage occurs due to various causes.

Various leaks above seem trivial, but it could be a clue there were parts of the car that are not functioning normally.

Handling as soon as may be necessary to prevent further damage.

4 Problems and How to Fix Tachometer

The engine is the heart of the car and RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) is a unit of measure proverbial heartbeat.

Engine RPM is an indicator derived from the engine power. While the instrument to measure the RPM is the tachometer.

As a high pulse rate is bad for the heart, high RPM level is not good for the engine. High RPM can lead to overheating and engine damage.

For the efficiency of the engine, it is important for the driver to move the gears in accordance with the values RPM safe.

That is why, the tachometer is an important part that must always function properly.

Tachometer help monitor engine condition and diagnose the possibility of problems.

Working Principle

Tachometer shows engine RPM by measuring the rotation of the crankshaft.

Measurement is done by installing a device resembling a miniature electric generator which generates electrical current that varies according to the engine rotation speed.

The resulting electrical current is then converted into RPM.

Basic Problems and How Handling

There are several problems that can interfere with the performance of the tachometer. These types of problems can generally be divided into two categories, mechanical and electronic.

Of the various types of damage to the car, including the tachometer problem most easily overcome.

Here are some problems on the tachometer and how to solve them.

1. Off Screen

This condition mainly occurs in the digital tachometer.

Not the appearance of on-screen display can be caused by problems with the LED screen itself.

Tachometer that has long been used to damage the LED.

If true LED broken into different causes of problems, you should immediately replace it with a new screen.

2. Check Cable Connection

Sometimes the cable connections have rust or disconnected so make tachometer does not work.

The classic symptoms due to a problem in the wiring circuit is characterized by chaotic tachometer reading or abnormal.

Check the tachometer cable circuits based on the manual. Track cable connections from the display tachometer to the engine parts.

Check the connection with the resources and the engine control unit. Make sure tachometer properly grounded.

Fix loose connections and replace corroded wires.

3. Calibration Issues

Another problem that may arise is the tachometer calibration that is out of sync.

Improper calibration makes reading on the tachometer is higher or lower than the actual conditions.

This problem can be solved by re-calibration.

4. Checking with Tachometer Replacement

To check whether there is a problem in the wiring or other internal problems, post tachometer substitute for testing.

If the tachometer replacement turned out to work, then the problem lies in the old tachometer.

If you are not able to handle it alone, seek immediate repair shop or other professionals.

2014 Kia KX3 Concept

Kia’s surprising absence at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show caught some people by surprise. But as it turns out, those who were looking for Kia went to the wrong auto show. The Korean automaker did attend a show, and it even presented a new concept vehicle. But it wasn’t in LA; it was over 7,000 miles away in Guangzhou, China. Yes, Kia was in attendance at the 2014 Guangzhou Auto Show where it presented the KX3 Concept, a preview model for a C-segment SUV that will be exclusively sold in the Chinese market. On a slightly less obvious level, the KX3 Concept could also be a spiritual preview of the next-generation Kia Sportage that’s due out in 2015.

What appears certain is that the KX3 Concept will evolve into a production model in China as part of Kia’s joint venture with Dongfeng Yueda Kia (DYK). What’s less certain is how much influence the concept will have on the new Sportage.

Kia hasn’t said anything of note on the latter front, but it certainly wouldn’t surprise us if the new Sportage does utilize some of the KX3’s styling elements, especially with how the concept’s design has been well-received since making its auto show debut in Guangzhou.

Measuring 167.71 inches long and 69.4 inches wide, the Kia KX3 Concept has the proportions to be considered as a preview look of the new Sportage, even though it is slightly shorter and narrower than the current Kia SUV.

The front end features a fresh design that, quite frankly, is a little more appealing than what we see now in the Sportage. Highlights include the angular, wraparound LED headlights that run up to the edges of the hood and the longer, chrome-wrapped tiger grille (taken from the Kia Soul Kia Soul) that stretches across the entire front section. The lower bumper does looks slightly subdued with the small intakes, the fog lamps with their own chrome borders, and the chrome-look body cladding.

One thing I don’t like is how the KX3 Concept’s round front section doesn’t jive with its muscular body. It’s a shame because the front takes a lot out of the concept’s otherwise pleasing athletic appearance. Hopefully, Kia addresses this once it starts building the production model.

2014 Honda FCV Concept

It wasn’t all that long ago that the idea of a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle seemed like a dead-end endeavor. The prospect of a world full of cars that consume hydrogen and emit only water has always ranked right up there with flying cars on the list of things that have always been right around the corner. The technology remained too expensive for public consumption, and when hybrids and EVs began selling huge numbers, it seemed everyone just sort of forgot about it. Except for Honda.

The Japanese company has arguably more experience than any car company in the world when it comes to hydrogen fuel-cell technology. Way back in 1999, the company introduced it first prototype fuel-cell vehicle, the FCX, and later introduced a limited-run compact hatchback FCX for limited fleet use in the United States and Japan.

In 2008 Honda launched its first pilot program for individual customers with the FCX Clarity in 2008. It was built in limited numbers and offered in parts of Southern California and Japan and Europe, where hydrogen fill-up stations were starting to pop up. Because the FCX Clarity was so expensive to manufacture (rumors suggest as much as $1 million per unit), they were only offered for lease.

The FCX Clarity program ended in early 2014, but now Honda is doubling down with a new hydrogen fuel-cell car, the FCV Concept. As the name implies, it’s just a concept for now, but Honda has committed to launching a road-ready version in 2016 as part of a wider initiative in Southern California and eventually other parts of the world. Honda has also committed to helping expand the state of California’s public hydrogen refueling station network. Heck, I even saw a hydrogen pump at a Shell station in Orange County just last week.

The rest of the body features well-defined creases, the most notable of which runs from the front wheel well and curves downward across the rear door into an air-intake. The front features a very cool looking brushed-aluminum mask framed on either side by LED headlights. The taillights fade into a large, black-tinted panel that sits above a rear diffuser that looks straight off a Le Mans prototype.

The FCV is every bit as futuristic inside as it is on the outside. A dark wood-grain strip adds a bit of class and wraps from door to door across the dashboard. The same wood grain shows up on the center console and doors, the latter is inlaid with metallic horizontal pinstripes. The bottom half of the dash has a polished-aluminum finish, and all five seats and center tunnel are wrapped in smooth white leather.

Smack in the middle of the dash is a large iPad-like touchscreen panel, where drivers can monitor drivetrain functions and presumably access sat-nav and infotainment user interfaces. The center console is spare, and features nifty transmission and parking brake lights that show through the wood grain. The steering wheel is shaped like a hexagon and seems to be missing its top, so expect a rounder, more functional wheel for the production version.

Rather than drawing power from a wall outlet, fuel-cell cars are essentially electric cars that produce electricity using a chemical reaction of oxygen and hydrogen that occurs within a fuel-cell stack. This also eliminates the need for heavy battery packs. Thanks to Honda’s continued development, the FCV’s next-generation fuel-cell stack is both smaller and more efficient.

The smaller stack size — 33 percent smaller than that of the FCX — also presents the potential for the hydrogen-powered drivetrain to be applied to other vehicles in Honda’s range.

Improved efficiency means the stack now produces up to 100 kW, or about 134 horsepower in internal combustion speak. Power density has increased by 60 percent to 3.1 kW/L, and Honda claims a very impressive range of 435 miles between fill-ups — a 60-mile improvement over the Clarity. The trick will be finding a place 435 miles away with a hydrogen refueling station, but if you do, you’ll be able to refill in just three to five minutes.

Hydrogen makes up about 75 percent of the known mass in our universe. You’d think that would make it pretty cheap, but prices for hydrogen fill-ups haven’t really settled like gasoline has. With current technology, it’s estimated to cost about $50 per 300 miles, which is a bit better than your average, modern-day internal-combustion car.

Along with the FCV, Honda introduced the Honda Power Exporter Concept, which is basically a small, portable box on wheels that turns the FCV into a mobile power generator. It provides a 9 kW AC power outlet in the event of a power outage, emergency or an overnight keg party in the desert.

2016 Cadillac ATS-V Sedan

Welcome to Cadillac’s new direction; sport luxury wrapped in an attractive package and motivated by a powerful engine. The 2016 ATS-V sedan is the latest and greatest General Motors has to offer with the ATS platform. The four-door luxury compact sedan first bowed in the 2012 model year and took the segment by storm. A minor refresh for 2015 brings the car in line with its new-for-2015 Coupe version while Cadillac’s new wreathless and widened crest replaces the old brand emblem. With its sights set squarely on dethroning the Germans and their performance luxury sedans, Cadillac is upping the ante with twin turbochargers, sport suspension, and enough go-fast bits to build a racecar – all while keeping that swanky style the brand has become identifiable with.

At the heart of the ATS-V lies a twin-turbocharged version of the familiar 3.6-liter V-6. The engine finds itself with numerous upgrades, helping it produce an estimated 455 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual comes standard while the new eight-speed automatic borrowed from the Corvette Z06 is optional. All the power is routed through a limited-slip differential to the rear tires. Cadillac expects 0 to 60 mph to come in a blazing 3.9 seconds.

Cadillac’s outspoken new front man and president, Johan de Nysschen, says this V-Series is the “best example of Cadillac’s emerging product substance and the purest expression of the passion at the core of the brand.” Translation: the new 2016 ATS-V sedan ain’t your grandma’s Cadillac.
